Great Meadow Polo School places a high standard on horsemanship and safety. The Great Meadow Polo School was established along with the club to build future generations of players. The School teaches the importance of riding skills, horsemanship and respect for the rules of the game. Here is are some options for learning the Sport of Polo:

1. 10-hour Introductory Program taught by world-class professionals to teach the basics of polo riding, striking the ball, rules and safety. 
2. Low goal polo consisting of drills, strategy and chukkers under professional supervision. 
3. Regular polo, participation in club play. 

The following is a breakdown of a normal 10-Hour Introductory Program. The pro will adapt the program to suit the ability of the individual student.

• Polo Riding: Learning to ride polo style. Initial introduction will take place in the arena and then move to the open fields. 2.5 hours. 
• Hitting: Learning to hit the polo ball and various shots (nearside, offside, back forehand, neck shots, tail and open shots). 2 hours. 
• Rules and Safety: Instruction on the rules of the game and how to play safely. 1.5 hours. 
• Strategy: Instruction on how the game is actually played including the player’s individual and team responsibilities. 1 hour. 
• Stick and Ball: Putting it all together, riding and hitting the ball. 3 hours. 
• Chukkers: Graduation; actually playing the game with players of comparable experience. 

The ten hour Introductory Program can be scheduled at the convenience of the student and pro. The school will provide polo pony, tack, helmet, groom, mallets and facilities. The student need only bring boots.
